During an inspection visit to Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia, Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the importance of ecological conservation and sustainable green development. His visit highlighted efforts in wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and the advancement of environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.
At the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi reviewed the progress made in restoring the lake, which had been at risk of drying up due to climate-related and other pressures. He noted that conservation measures have successfully restored and expanded the lake’s water body over the years. Emphasizing the need to implement China’s wetland protection law, Xi called for safeguarding biodiversity and maintaining strict ecological protection boundaries. He advocated for prioritizing natural restoration in degraded wetlands, supported by scientific intervention when necessary.
Xi also visited the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone to assess the progress of China’s “East Data, West Computing” initiative, which aims to enhance the distribution of computing resources across the nation. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the efficient operation of completed projects and completing ongoing developments on schedule. The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe computing infrastructure, thereby strengthening China’s digital economy while supporting sustainable development.
In addition to ecological and technological advancements, Xi took the opportunity to review local agricultural and livestock products. He encouraged officials to better connect production with markets to improve the incomes of farmers and herders, promoting economic growth alongside ecological preservation.
