This competitive atmosphere has also sparked a pivotal question: Has the field of humanoid robotics reached a transformative “iPhone moment”? This term, popularized by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in 2023, signifies a groundbreaking technological advancement that propels an innovation from being a novel concept to a widely adopted tool, reshaping industries and user experiences alike.
Wang Xingxing, the founder and CEO of Unitree Robotics, a prominent Chinese humanoid robot manufacturing company, shared a measured perspective on the timeline for embodied intelligence to achieve such a breakthrough. He suggested that embodied intelligence could experience an industry-defining moment akin to the surge in popularity seen with ChatGPT within the next two to three years. However, he also acknowledged that under more conservative development scenarios, this transformation might extend to five to ten years.
Wang’s insights were delivered during the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing on August 20.
