The initial glimpse of Dune: Part Three has arrived with its first trailer, offering a gripping look at the concluding segment of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy, which is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah. The narrative picks up nearly two decades after Dune: Part Two, centering on Emperor Paul Atreides as he grapples with the harrowing aftermath of a galaxy-spanning holy war waged in his name.
The preview delves into Paul’s increasing seclusion as uprisings ignite throughout his empire, straining his relationship with Chani. Troubled by prophetic visions and besieged by rising political dangers, Paul must reckon with the repercussions of his choices while safeguarding those dearest to him. Among the trailer’s notable revelations is the unexpected return of Duncan Idaho. Although Duncan was killed in the first installment, his reappearance as Hayt—a genetically engineered “ghola” by the enigmatic Tleilaxu—signals an emotional, yet complex comeback as part of a broader plot to destabilize Paul’s reign.
Several formidable adversaries are introduced in the trailer, all conspiring against the Emperor. This alliance includes Princess Irulan, the Bene Gesserit led by Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, the Spacing Guild’s Navigator Edric, and the shape-shifting Scytale. United, they pose a significant threat to the dominance of House Atreides.
In a poignant scene, Paul and Chani ponder names for their impending child, offering a glimpse into the future of the Atreides lineage. Additionally, fans are treated to their first sight of the dreaded Stone Burner, a formidable weapon capable of widespread destruction and inflicting permanent blindness, foreshadowing one of the novel’s pivotal incidents. Anya Taylor-Joy’s portrayal of Alia Atreides expands, showcasing her as a formidable leader and one of Paul’s staunchest allies, highlighting the story’s substantial time leap.
Featuring a star-studded cast including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, Robert Pattinson, Javier Bardem, and Anya Taylor-Joy, Dune: Part Three is slated for an exclusive release in theaters and IMAX in December 2026.
