Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) is advancing its presence in the semiconductor industry with the mass production of its 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family, which includes models EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111. These ePower™ Stage ICs are crafted to cater to high-performance motion-control needs by integrating high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, along with gate drivers and level-shifting circuitry, all within compact QFN packages that enhance thermal efficiency.
These innovative devices are engineered to operate efficiently up to 100 V, offering current ratings of 35 A and 20 A depending on the model. This integrated design aims to enhance power density and efficiency, thus streamlining system design for users. Notable features include rapid fault shutdown, secure gate control in power-loss scenarios, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. Moreover, single-input PWM options are available to support multi-axis motor-control applications.
EPC is also unveiling a series of three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards, namely the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131, which are built around the new power-stage ICs. These platforms incorporate elements such as gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, as well as temperature monitoring and protection functions. These new devices are accessible through EPC’s extensive global distribution network, including prominent distributors like Digi-Key and Mouser.
The applications for these products are vast, targeting humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. In terms of pricing, the EPC23108 and EPC23109 models are available for US$3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are priced at US$2.47 each, based on purchases of 3,000 units. Meanwhile, the EPC91128 and EPC91129 evaluation boards are priced at US$640 each, with the EPC91130 and EPC91131 priced at US$630 each.
In addition to these products, EPC is releasing a technical white paper in both English and Chinese, detailing the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for these new GaN power-stage ICs.
