The debut of a new non-stop flight service between Dublin Airport and Shanghai commenced on Monday, establishing Ireland’s inaugural direct air connection to China’s most populous city. The route will be operated by China Eastern Airlines and is scheduled to run three times a week, utilizing their Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This service is set to become the longest non-stop flight ever offered from Dublin Airport.
According to the airport operator daa, this new route significantly strengthens Ireland’s ties with China’s vast aviation market, which is among the most important globally. The introduction of this service is anticipated to enhance travel, tourism, trade, and educational exchanges between Ireland and China, fostering greater connectivity between the two nations.
China Eastern Airlines, headquartered in Shanghai and a member of the SkyTeam alliance, has a broad operational reach, servicing destinations across Europe, Asia, Oceania, North America, South America, and the Middle East. The addition of the Dublin-Shanghai route is seen as a strategic expansion of Dublin Airport’s long-haul offerings, providing new opportunities for passengers traveling between the two countries.
Officials at Dublin Airport have expressed that the launch of this service is a significant milestone, augmenting the airport’s long-haul flight network. The new route is expected to facilitate increased passenger traffic and create new avenues for cultural and economic exchanges with China.
Wang Zhiqing, Chairman of China Eastern Airlines, highlighted that the service establishes a convenient and efficient air corridor linking Ireland and China. He emphasized that this will aid in strengthening bilateral cooperation and fostering closer people-to-people connections.
