As Chinese President Xi Jinping commenced his visit to Cairo, he emphasized the importance of enhancing ties and broadening cooperation with Egypt, underscoring the enduring relationship that has existed between the two nations for 70 years. Upon arrival, Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, received a warm welcome from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife.
In a message preceding his visit, Xi reflected on the robust relationship China and Egypt have maintained despite shifts in the global landscape. He advocated for renewed efforts to bolster the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership and explore new avenues of collaboration. The Chinese leader highlighted the significance of both countries aligning their national development goals and stressed the importance of cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on practical projects that promise lasting economic benefits.
Xi’s vision for expanded cooperation encompasses various fields, including education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He believes that enhanced exchanges in these areas will foster mutual understanding and further cement the bond between the peoples of China and Egypt. Additionally, Xi noted that China and Egypt should continue to support each other on key issues, safeguarding their mutual interests.
Calling Egypt a pivotal partner in the broader collaboration between China and Arab nations, as well as China and Africa, Xi underscored the role both countries play as members of the Global South. He advocated for closer coordination on international matters, increased support for multilateral cooperation, and collective endeavors to advance global peace and stability.
The visit is poised to fortify political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, opening new avenues for collaboration in sectors such as trade, infrastructure, and technology. Xi expressed China’s readiness to work with Egypt to build upon seven decades of diplomatic relations and infuse new energy into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
